This isn’t a new release but I was absolutely delighted to find “Fresh Hex” by Tobacco featuring Beck. Both are extremely talented artists with distinctive sounds (Tobacco is the frontman of Black Moth Super Rainbow) which merge together very well in this sadly short track.

“Ghetto Tekz Runnin’ It” by DJ Rashad isn’t a new release, but I love the bass. The chorus is also quite lovely and the general loungey, super chill mood of the track is excellent.

“Mother Protect” by Niki & The Dove is a beautiful, very Scandinavian track, which has plenty of nature-inspired lyrics, just like “The Fox.” It takes a while to pick up, but the ending is so triumphant that it’s worth the wait. They’re at U Street Music Hall Thursday night if anyone’s interested!

If you need more sick bass in your life, turn to Girl Unit’s “Wut (Claude Vonstroke Undressed Remix).” The song is six minutes long and is just everywhere, with several really excellent drops in its undulating bassline and other interesting sonic things that go on around and over it.

Tasha Baxter is an incredibly talented South African singer whose recent single, “Bikes,” would be appreciated by fans of Lily Allen or Adèle. I find this song to be very uplifting in a slightly sad, nostalgic way. Enjoy!

Die Antwoord’s new album, Ten$ion, was released recently, and “Fatty Fatty Boom Boom” is my pick. I’m not sure I like it more than “Evil Boy,” but it’s still catchy and is true to Die Antwoord’s sound.

wintertakingdays asked: Hey, so, uh, what do you think about Owl City and Adam Young's music? Should I continue to listen to him? I guess you could consider this life advice; since listening to Adam Young has caused rifts to form within certain friendships. :\ Thoughts?

My advice is to listen to whatever you want, but if you’re concerned, just balance it out with other stuff. Moderation is key. Also:

Field Mouse is an adorable name for a band, especially a female-fronted dreampop band, and “Glass” is a pleasant, fuzzed-out track. For fans of Metric and maybe old school Ivy.

Why did I never get into Lil Wayne before? This remix of “I Feel Like Dying” by Flying Lotus is sick. The song seems to decompose into crumbly bass and stoned as hell vocals as you listen, which makes it very vibe-able. I love this and hopefully you will too.
